What Makes us Different?

Traditional School

1
A single teacher lectures to a classroom full of pupils, focusing on one-way communication.
2
Pupils are required to memorise vast amounts of facts and figures, with an emphasis on rote learning.
3
Classroom activities often consist of completing worksheets and repetitive tasks that reinforce the material.
4
Success is traditionally measured through high-stakes testing and periodic reports that reflect academic performance.
5
Adult authority figures strictly enforce rules and maintain a structured order within the school environment.
6
The school operates on a uniform, industrial model with scheduled bells, set class periods and strict supervision, resembling a factory.
7
Classrooms are arranged in rows of desks where students passively listen to the teacher's instructions.
8
The entire class is expected to progress through the curriculum at the same pace, regardless of individual learning needs.
9
Breaktime and physical activity are minimal, often sacrificed for more academic instruction time.
10
The curriculum has little emphasis on developing personal character, kindness, or gratitude, focusing primarily on academic outcomes.

St. George Academy

1
Learners lead in a multi-age, collaborative, self-paced environment where everyone is a guide and everyone is a learner.
2
Learners explore, create, and innovate at their own pace using hands-on tools and technology.
3
Learners build businesses, engage in hands-on projects, and participate in public exhibitions and real-world apprenticeships.
4
Success is measured by setting and achieving challenging goals, mastering skills, creating portfolios of excellent work, and applying learning to real world situations.
5
Learners self govern through a contract of commitments to each other.
6
School is like a garden, where seeds of potential grow into unique and beautiful individuals.
7
Our environment resembles a modern workplace like Google or SpaceX, where collaboration and creativity are encouraged.
8
Learners set personalised goals and transparently track their progress.
9
Learners enjoy lots of outdoor activities, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
10
Kindness, gratitude, character, and service to others are integral parts of our curriculum.

Our Mission

We believe each person who enters our doors deserves to find a calling and change the world.

"I would never have believed children could learn so much from each other...
until I saw it with my own eyes. The lessons of self-management and self-governance have prepared our Year Five daughter to be a lifelong learner.”
